Are you a landowner or land manager looking to expand your knowledge and practical skills in prescribed fire? Don't miss the exciting opportunity to attend the Prescribed Fire Workshop on December 7, 2023, from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm at the Campbell Aquatic Building within the beautiful surroundings of the Charlie Elliott Wildlife Center. Learn how to harness the benefits of controlled burns, gaining hands-on experience through live burns while discovering essential techniques for use on your own land.
This workshop covers a wide array of topics, including prescribed burn planning, securing burn permits, managing smoke, understanding fire weather, staying informed about liability laws, and discovering available financial resources. Ideal for those with little to no prescribed fire experience, this event offers the chance to enhance your land management capabilities. Please note that participants will be required to sign a hold-harmless liability disclosure/waiver on the day of the event and should be prepared for active participation, including walking on uneven terrain and using tools. To ensure safety, attendees are REQUIRED to wear natural fiber clothing (Pants & Shirt); participants are highly encouraged to wear leather boots, and bring eye protection and leather gloves. Additionally, a bandana (natural fibers), water bottle, and sunscreen will be handy for your comfort during the workshop.
Prescribed fires are a vital tool for landowners and land managers, promoting healthy ecosystems, reducing the risk of wildfires, and enhancing the overall quality of your property. By attending this workshop, you will gain invaluable knowledge and skills that can help you steward your land effectively, while also enjoying the camaraderie of fellow participants.
