Snake River Quail Forever, Idaho Sporting Clays, K Bar T Pheasant Shooting Preserve, and dog/handler pairs from the finest gun dog organizations in Idaho's Treasure Valley are collaborating again to prepare another group of young hunters to venture into Idaho's golden uplands.

Students from 12 to 17 years of age will learn to hunt upland game safely and effectively.  Topics will include eye dominance, gun fit, safe firearm manipulation, gun mount, stance, sight picture, target engagement techniques and more.  The class will meet the following Sundays: 8/20/23, 8/27/23, 9/10/23, 9/17/23, 9/24/23 and 10/1/2 from 9:00 am to 11:00 am at Idaho Sporting Clays, located in Homedale, Idaho.

A morning hunt of planted gamebirds will take place on Saturday, 10/7, at K Bar T Pheasant Preserve located 30 minutes east of Boise.  The students will be paired with a mentor and dog handler who will assist them in hunting and harvesting planted game birds.  Students participating in the hunt are required to have completed an accepted Hunter Education course and have a hunting license prior to the day of the hunt.

Students are required to provide the following at each class session: eye protection, hear protection and method of carrying extra ammunition.  Students will need to have 75 rounds of shotgun ammunition available each session.

Students are welcome to bring a shotgun for use during the class.  A limited number of reduced length 20 gauge over under shotguns are available for use during class at no charge.  Parents are encouraged to consult with an instructor prior to purchasing a shotgun for their child.

The course and youth hunt covers the cost of the clay targets, game birds, safety equipment and snacks.  The program is taught by volunteers and our partners provide their services at steep discounts or for free.  We do this to share our love of upland hunting and grow the upland hunting community.
