YOUTH MENTOR PHEASANT HUNT
for Helena Hunter Education Graduates
The local Headwaters Chapter of Pheasants Forever and Montana Fish Wildlife & Parks are hosting a youth mentor pheasant hunt. The hunt will provide an opportunity for youths to hunt with experienced upland bird hunters and learn hunting techniques including: preparations, dog handling, safety and field care.
Schedule of Events:
Thursday, September 21, 2023: Orientation at the Helena Trap Club (5505 N. Montana Ave.) at 6:00 pm
- Introductions
- Explanation and hunt details
- Firearm and Hunting Safety
- Trap Shooting
Saturday, September 23, 2023: Youth Mentor Pheasant Hunt
- Meet at FWP Headquarters parking lot (1420 East 6th Ave.) at 7:00 am
- Travel to Canyon Ferry Wildlife Management area, near Townsend (about 40 miles one way)
- Bring your own gear, license and shotgun, appropriate clothing, food, water, etc.
- Split up into hunting groups with mentors and dogs. We’ll hunt for some time and then you may hunt with your parents for the remainder of the day.
The events will be limited to 12 eligible participants with an accompanying parent, please contact Greg Wirth, Pheasants Forever, at 457-9268 to register or for more information.
