The Palmetto Quailfest Field Day will provide landowners, hunters, and nature lovers opportunities to learn directly from wildlife conservation professionals about a variety of fascinating topics. Join Quail Forever, SCDNR, and USFS and more from 9:00 am -2:00 pm at Gunrise Farms in Newberry County on Oct 23rd for a day of fellowship, learning, and fun! The field day will feature talks and field tours including the following:
The Palmetto Quailfest Field Day will coincide with the Palmetto Upland Challenge shooting competition. You do not have to participate in the Upland Challenge to Participate in the Field Day. If you are interested in participating in the Upland Challenge please register Oct 1 at the link below:

The evening before the Palmetto Quailfest Field Day and Upland Challenge there will be a Quail Forever Banquet at the Newberry Firehouse to raise funds to support habitat work on the Indian Creek Quail Focal Area. Please register for the banquet at:

- Habitat Tours of the Indian Creek Quail Focal Area by biologist Jake McClain (Quail Focal Area Coordinator): Join Jake as he discusses the ongoing habitat work to restore the local population of
- Birding Walk with SCDNR Staff: Learn about how other bird species benefit from open-canopy pine woodland habitat
- The Importance of Prairies and Savannas in the Southeast with Southeastern Grasslands Initiative biologist Brittney Viers: Brittney will talk about the historical prevalence of savannas and prairies in the southeast and the vital role they play in conserving wildlife.
- The Tools of Prescribed Fire with SCDNR biologist Johnny Stowe: Join Johnny as he shows off the private lands burn trailer and all the tools used by landowners to put good fire on the landscape.
- Reptiles of Pine Savannas: Quail Forever biologist Miranda Gulsby will show off some live reptiles and talk about their habitat needs.
- Precision Agriculture: Making Red Acres Green- Precision Ag Specialist Charles Holt will speak on how producers can improve their profitability while implementing conservation practices on agricultural lands.
- State of the Bobwhite in SC: SCDNR's own Breck Carmichael will talk about changes in the statewide quail population, efforts to restore the whistle, and hope for the future of quail in the state.
- Intro to Timber Management: Learn how to look at your trees like a forester, control invasive and undesirable species, and boost the wildlife value of your timber.
