Join us on Saturday May 11, 2024 at 9:00am to help establish winter habitat for upland game birds including the endangered sharp-tail grouse. In partnership with the Spokane Audubon Society and WDFW, we are planting 700 trees and shrubs and enclosing the planting sites in deer fence. Hot lunch will be provided and camping accommodations are available if you'd like to stay overnight. Please sign up to volunteer here.
The Swanson Lakes wildlife area is critical habitat for state-endangered Columbian sharp-tailed grouse and other upland birds. These species depend on riparian trees and shrubs for winter habitat. This habitat is lacking on the wildlife area, exacerbated by the 2020 Whitney Road fire.
