Event is posted for 2023 here: link
Students are required to have hunter education certificate in hand by the end of the day on July 22nd, 2023. In-person hunter education courses can be found at: fwp.mt.gov Online hunter education available at: hunter-ed.com
The program is spread over 5 Saturdays (1/2 day) and 2 evenings in late July, August and September. Each Saturday will have a small section of time devoted to theory and a larger section of shooting skills practice. We are going to talk about shotgun specifics and gun care, basic hunting skills and ethics, hunting dogs and bird identification. Tuesdays are dedicated to shooting skills in order to add accurate finesse and for a fun time at the range.
Our main sponsors are our volunteer instructors who dedicate their passion and time to the program. Every year our program is supported by different donors. Our Youth Hunt in September is sponsored by the Huempfner Ranch. They donate their time, space, and game birds to create a unique experience that is successful for first time hunters.
We are very thankful to many US based companies who sponsor our youth program including: Manhattan Wildlife Association, Gallatin Sporting Clays, Federal Ammunition, Stone Glacier, CamelBak, OnX Maps, Sitka, Kenetrek, Blackhawk!, Simms Fishing, Hoppe’s, Alps brands, Vista Outdoor and others.
The program is completely FREE to the students and families. We require a hunter education class as a prerequisite (could be obtained online here: link). No experience with a shotgun is required. Students are welcome to bring their own personal firearm to practice with. This is not mandatory. The Pheasants Forever Youth Program supplies all firearms and 20 gauge ammo that is needed for students to develop shooting skills.
