Canadian Valley 2024 Introduction to Upland Hunting
Ever wanted to learn how to hunt but don’t know where to begin? Maybe you have heard people talk about quail hunting and are not sure how to go about it? We have the event for you.
Join us on October 26th at 8am at Wahoo Kennels for an Introduction to Upland Hunting. Upland Hunting is the act of hunting small game species that are primarily living in non-wetland habitat. This could be quail, pheasant, or even rabbits. This event will impart the knowledge you need to go out on your own and hunt these species.
And best of all? Its Free.
Here is an overview of what you will learn and experience.
Event Stations:
- Gun and Hunting Safety: Understanding how to safely bird hunt through varied terrain, different obstacles, with dogs, and fellow hunters.
- Understanding What Birddogs Need: The differences in the training, health and nutritional needs of birddog athletes from your everyday pet.
- Hunting Regulations: Your local Game Warden will walk you through the rules and logic behind them when bird hunting.
- Quail Habitat: Where to find birds, the importance of habitat for all wildlife and what you can do to help them.
- Quail Field: Go out and hunt live birds with pointing dogs in a controlled environment.
Limited to 40 hunters – must be pre-registered to participate.
Requirements:
- Participants MUST have taken and passed Hunter’s Safety Class by ODWC or another state, and if over 16, must have an OK hunting license.
- Previous shotgunning experience is required.
- Attendees must provide their own transportation, blaze orange vest and/or hat, suitable shotgun, eye protection, and shotgun shells. (We do have some shotguns and extra gear if needed, so please reach out to us if you do not have a shotgun to use.)
- All participants must be aged 11 and over. All youth must be accompanied by a parent/legal guardian or designated Youth Group Leader. Younger siblings are welcome to attend however cannot participate in quail hunt if they are unable to handle a shotgun and have not met the requirements above.
