Cedar Creek PF 37th Annual Banquet

            Winter has come once again and it’s time to celebrate with our Annual Cedar Creek Pheasants Forever Banquet. This year marks our 37th year of raising funds for pheasant and quail conservation and habitat. We all know that good habitat and food sources are essential for the survival of all upland birds. 

This past year Cedar Creek PF provided Monroe County landowners with corn, sorghum, soybean, and sunflower seed to plant 447 acres of food plots on 35 projects. A total of 52 acres of native grasses were drilled or interseeded, with an additional 70 acres of CRP being burned to establish and improve nesting and brooding cover. Through our continued partnership with Cargill, corn was provided to area residents to feed song and game birds throughout the winter. A $500 scholarship was awarded to an Albia high school graduate. CCPF once again donated $2,500 towards the continuous effort of edge feathering that has greatly improved the habitat for upland birds around Lake Miami. We maintained our support of the Albia Trap Team and donated three adjustable stock semiauto shotguns for their shooting teams.

Our annual funding of the Monroe County PF Farm Bill Biologist, Patrick Grunwald, provides landowners assistance in designing wildlife plans and finding cost share assistance to improve existing and establishing new habitat. In a partnership with the Rathbun unit of the Iowa DNR, our chapter donated $2,600 towards the purchase of a rototiller to create firebreaks to improve native grasses with controlled burns. All these activities are made possible due to your continued generosity and support of our annual Cedar Creek PF Banquet.             This year’s banquet features twelve guns to be raffled, PF camping chairs and table, Yeti Tundra 45 hard cooler, PF Yeti 50L waterproof duffel, Mud River truck seat organizer, Orvis Bolster dog bed, Negrini universal shotgun case, OnX membership, wall art, Larry Zach and Joel Pilcher prints, shop ladder, knives, tools, Purina dog food, Caldwell lead sled, 4 tray dehydrator, and numerous donated items and gift certificates from local businesses, restaurants, and individuals.
