Meet at Kones Korner at 10 AM to 10:30 AM to turn in parental permission slips and receive safety gear.
Most years all participating hunters get shots at pheasants! A high percentage of the youth hunters harvest pheasants!
The hunt is free and the only requirement is to possess a South Dakota Youth Small Game License ($5) and have a signed parental permission slip. The youth license can be purchased online or on-site at Kones Korner but the pre-requisite is having passed an approved hunter safety course!
Youth hunters will then move to the nearby John Bucher estate at to practice trap shooting, safe gun handling, and have a quick lunch.
After lunch (approximately 1 PM), the youth hunters will take the field at the John Bucher Farm for some spectacular pheasant hunting over dogs, with one guide minimum for every 2 youth hunters.
Following the hunt, the young hunters will gather for a photo around 3:30 PM, be shown how and encouraged to dress their own birds, and have a quick snack.
Blaze orange safety apparel, hearing and eye protection, and shells will be provided. A minimum of one guide for each pair of hunters will supervise and dogs will help the young hunters find the birds.
At least 3 guns and other hunting related items will be awarded at the conclusion of the hunt through a special drawing.
Parents or grandparents or guardians are welcome to attend and volunteer.
Contact Daryl Schofield at 605-881-1640 or Jim Gerberding at 605-881-5313 to sign up.
Information and sign-up sheets will also be posted at our Annual Banquet on September 2rd at the Estelline American Legion starting at 5:00 PM.
