All Hamlin County Area South Dakota Youth Small Game license holders (ages 12-15) are invited to attend a Free Youth Pheasant hunt! Our day will begin with a sign-up requiring turn-in of signed parental permission slips at 10:00 AM at Kones Korner followed by distribution of free blaze orange hats, vests, and eye and hearing protection.
Youth hunters will then proceed to free trap shooting at the Host Farm within 5 miles of the sign-up location at approximately 11:00 AM followed by a free lunch and short safety and rules of hunt message.
The Hunt will begin around 1:00 PM. One guide for every two youth hunters will guide the kids with trained dogs in outstanding pheasant habitat known to hold high populations of rooster pheasants! All shells for both trap shooting and the actual hunt will be provided free of charge in both 20 and 12 gauges. There will also be several gun giveaways at the hunt conclusion and all hunt items provided to the youth hunters are theirs to keep at the conclusion of the hunt. The youth hunters will be given game cleaning instruction and will bring home any birds harvested. This will be a non-competitive safe environment to introduce kids to the great tradition of pheasant hunting by local hunters committed to passing on the tradition! Parent's may participate as guides as long as they have field experience and agree to follow the hunt rules.
NOTE: ALL HUNTERS MUST HAVE A SD YOUTH SMALL GAME LICENSE (ONLY $5) BUT . . . TO PURCHASE THAT LICENSE YOU MUST HAVE SUCCESSFULLY COMPLETED YOUR HUNT-SAFE COURSE! WE CAN MAKE NO EXCEPTIONS TO THIS IMPORTANT SAFETY REQUIREMENT. THE $5 LICENSE IS THE ONLY COST FOR THIS HUNT.
