Ladies! Are you interested in learning more about how to identify birds and going birding? This is the event for you!! Join us for our Women on the Wing: Women's Winter Birding Workshop!
This is a HYBRID event that will take place in two parts: (1) virtually in a Zoom webinar on January 20th from 6-7:30pm and (2) in-person for an in the field birding session at Prairie Fork Conservation Area on January 22nd from 8-10am.
Wander Woman, Missouri PFQF and the Missouri River Bird Observatory are teaming up for offer this Women's Winter Birding Workshop and we are so thrilled for this hybrid event! On January 20th, we will have a Zoom webinar to give a background on birding. We will discuss some of the basics of birding, including terminology, tools of the trade, the what-when-and-where to look for birds, and common birds that you'll find in Missouri in the winter. We will also talk about the importance of habitat for birds, especially during the winter, and things you can do to help our feathered friends! The webinar is meant to get ladies prepared for the birding field session that will take place on Saturday, January 22nd at Prairie Fork Conservation Area (4200 State Rd D, Williamsburg, MO 63388). During the birding session, we will show you how to use binoculars and field guides, then hike through prairie and forest habitats looking for birds to use the skills and knowledge from the webinar and practice identifying what we find!
For the webinar portion, the Zoom link will be sent to registrants the day before the webinar. For the birding session, be sure to dress for the weather and wear shoes/boots that are good for bumpy terrain! We will be walking along gravel/mowed trails on the area and up and down some hills. Bring a refillable water bottle and/or reusable coffee mug - we will have water, coffee and hot chocolate for everyone! We will also provide light, trail-friendly snacks. If you have your own binoculars and field guide feel free to bring them, and we will also have binoculars and guides for ladies to use if they need to borrow some.
Thank you to Prairie Fork Conservation Area for hosting our birding session, to the Columbia Audubon Society for providing volunteers to help with birding, and to Corteva Agriscience for supporting Women on the Wing outreach events in Missouri! Events like this are possible thanks to our many partners and supporters!
