Oklahoma Quail Forever Field Day: Northern Bobwhite Habitat Management on Rangelands and Cross Timbers
PRE-REGISTRATION IS REQUIRED - Preferably by Sept 17th for Lunch, name tag, resource materials, and parking pass to be ordered.

Managing Hardwoods and Cross Timbers for Wildlife
-Tree and herbaceous plant ID: benefits or control (esp. prior to management)
-Acheiving desired canopy cover for deer/turkey & quail using herbicide
-Hack & Squirt, hinge cutting demo for deer
-Programs available for producers
-Creating edges, what is it, why important?
-Brush Control
Range Management: Problem Plants
-Hay meadow management
-Why introduced grasses offer few resources for quail
-Grazing systems for healthy rangelands
-Sericea, johnson grass, and broom sedge control
-Beneficial native "weeds" (e.g., thistle, milkweed)
-Programs available for producers
-Cedar Control
Range Management: Practices to Benefit Quail
-Quail Cover Needs throughout the Season: Nesting, Brood-rearing, Protective/Thermal
-Role of shrubs: ID, interspersion, at what density to treat or to plant
-Disking - when and where and why

-Eastern Red Cedar Control: methods and purpose, equipment/techniques demo
-Brush piles: benefits & detriments
Prescribed Fire
-Demo a PBA trailer
-Season of burn & their benefits
-Demo and hands-on experience
