Come on out and meet the chapter to do some HANDS-ON work for HABITAT to make a difference in your area!
Please join members of the Ramsey County chapter of Pheasants Forever on May 6th in a wildlife habitat improvement project 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Robert and Marilyn Burman WMA in Anoka County.
As some of you will remember, this is the same WMA where we replaced boundary signs and cleaned up trash last spring. This year, the DNR is in the midst of thinning out old oak woods to restore oak savanna, a combination of prairie and open woodlands that was once common in this part of the state. The habitat will improve the area for a number of grassland birds, including pheasants.
The DNR needs our help gathering up trunks and limbs of downed trees and stacking them in small piles in preparation for a prescribed burn they will conduct later in May. We can also gather up trash and perhaps pull an old barbed-wire fence.
We’ll meet at the parking lot at 11 a.m. (We’re starting late to avoid disturbing turkey hunters.) Be sure to bring something to drink during the day. We’ll have hot dogs and brats to grill at the end of the day.
If the weather is really bad, we may postpone the work for a day, until Sunday May 7.
