Event: Women’s Habitat Work Day
With: Artemis, WDNR and Pheasants Forever
Date: March 5th 2022
Time: 10-1pm
Cost: Free

RSVP's through this website are preferred but please just feel free to join the day of! Additionally, you do not need to print off your registration ticket you are given after registering. 

Location: Arena Pines & Sand Barrens State Natural Area - it includes a high-quality remnant sand barrens, an area of black locust in the process of being eradicated, an oak woods under the fourth year of restoration efforts, floodplain forest, and a wetland complex.

Park along Village Edge Road, just outside of the town of Arena.

*Event Goal: This will be a great opportunity to learn about small engines, herbicide use, and winter plant identification in a supportive environment; or, to simply have a great time improving rare habitat with a group of hard-working women.

Activities:  Opportunity to learn about equipment and techniques used for habitat restoration and management including:
• Chainsaw and brushcutter use
• Herbicide use
• Brush pile burning (if enough snow)
• Firebreak improvement in preparation for prescribed burning
• Winter plant identification

Things to Bring: Expect to do some walking off trail, physical activity, and wear clothes that can be beat up. Good items to bring are drinking water, gloves, and safety glasses.  Tools will be provided.  If desired, bring a lunch.  Some snacks and beverages will be provided.  No restroom on site.  


All participants will be required to sign a DNR volunteer form.  Additionally. any volunteer who would like to use a chain saw will be required to show proof that they have taken a chainsaw safety course and sign a waiver.

I grant to Pheasants Forever Inc. and Quail Forever, its representatives and employees the right to take photographs of me and my property in connection with the above-identified subject. I authorize Pheasants Forever Inc. and Quail Forever to use and publish the same in print and/or electronically. I agree that Pheasants Forever Inc. and Quail Forever may use such photographs of me with or without my name and for any lawful purpose, including for example such purposes as publicity, illustration, advertising, and Web content.
